Bringing Wellness to Cassina

Presented with a design brief at Milan Design Week, my peers and I were tasked with creating a concept for a furniture piece for Cassina’s bedroom collection. The goal of this product was to encourage rest, reflection, and regeneration for wellness.

Yoga for Wellness
Yoga promotes relaxation, which benefits the body and mind. Through the practice of stretching, breathing, and balance, yoga reduces stress and anxiety. Research studies by Johns Hopkins Medicine show that yoga improves sleep in adults.
Yoga Furniture
Yoga furniture is furniture that is designed to aid in stretching and yoga practice. It is curved to support the spine and body, and used to meditate and relieve stress.
The Luxury Market
The luxury furniture market lacks furniture designed specifically for stretching and body alignment. There is a hole in the market that Vinyasa fills.

Functionality

Vinyasa can be used for yoga practice, meditation, or relaxation. Three iterations were designed for cushion storage options.

Minimalism Meets Tranquility

Vinyasa is designed to support many positions to encourage wellness, whether resting or stretching. All of the components tuck away for a tidy space. The design provides an option for a yoga mat or foam roller. There is a weighted headrest folds for storage. The weight can be used for exercise and cushions for floor stretching.

Learning from the Best

To choose materials for my project, I worked with Cassina’s sustainability expert, Marco Capellini. Using the MATREC material database and Cassina’s existing materials, sustainable materials were selected for Vinyasa.
