A coaching system that tracks your limbs in relation to your core for real-time AI feedback.

How can we design a product that promotes happiness?

Is it possible to design a product that can actually make people happier? In a design team, we set out to explore this possibility, with Red Bull as our client persona. We wanted to create a product that embodies Red Bull’s energetic and fun brand image, helping people to achieve happiness through action.

  • What is Red Bull known for?

    With unique marketing tactics, Red Bull is known for getting their consumers involved with the brand. They maintain a high-energy and playful identity by supporting extreme sports and marketing to young thrill-seekers.

    “Red Bull gives you wings” has a 63% world recognition rate.

  • 45-60% of happiness is determined by internal efforts.

    That means habits, rituals, and activities. Setting goals and making an effort accounts for half of your happiness. The other majority is predetermined by your genetics.

  • The Experiential Advantage

    The experiential advantage is the belief that experiences bring people more happiness than material items. However, some items are both highly material and experiential. Studies have shown that these items bring people the most happiness.

    For example, cars, sports watches, iphones, and fancy hair styling tools.

Sports, Athletes, and Coaches

What do all sports have in common? Meaningful connections, discovery of potential, dedication in practice, high-energy motivation, and the setting and achievement of goals. How do athletes reach their goals? Their coaches.

Achieving Accessibility

People tend to set more goals than they achieve. This is because not everyone has access to the same resources. For example, some basketball players have access to the best coaches out there and play on teams of elite athletes. Some shoot baskets alone in the neighborhood court. What if everyone had a coach? Would more people be able to reach their goals?

One Coach for Every Sport

Using artificial intelligence, we are able to access an expert in every sport. We designed a coach that helps you to set and achieve your goals in any physical activity. Whether you’re learning to surf for the first time, or you’re an experienced runner, this coaching system will help you to achieve your goals. The system can be used for fun or for serious training.

  • Core-to-Limb Tracking

    Tracking sensors fasten around your wrists, ankles, and core. Using spatial awareness, AI tracks the movement of your limbs in relation to your core. This enables your coach to give you feedback that is personalized to your movement. This system is able to detect even the smallest tweaks to make to improve your performance.

    AI Coach

    The system uses AI to get an accurate reading of your performance. By speaking to you through headphone connection, the coach is able to give you feedback and motivation in the moment.

    Solo or Team Tracking

    For team sports, teammates can wear sensors to track team performance and gain insights into improving teamwork. In a match, opponents can wear sensors to gain insights into the dynamic between competitors.

  • Bands

    To track your limbs, there are bands equipped with sensors. Four that fasten around your wrists and ankles, and one that fastens around your chest. The sensors are removable for easy battery replacement.

    Case

    The case is portable to keep track of bands on the go. They connect to the bands to track progress, and give users a visual representation of growth with an illuminated display of wings.

Energetic Color

To evoke the high-energy spirit of Red Bull and appeal to their young audiences, we developed unique colorways for Jumpstart. Sunburst, Cherry Limeade, and Blue Skies give Jumpstart the image of sporty fun.

Tactile Materials

The materials for Jumpstart are durable and lightweight to fit into any situation. A blend of hard and soft materials creates contrast and versatility. Whether sitting on a bedside table, thrown in a sweaty gym bag, or set in the sun, the materials are water and weather resistant. The bands are breathable, comfortable, and easily washed.
